As it prepares for the New York Auto Show, South Korean automaker Hyundai has introduced the Boulder, a pickup that appears to draw inspiration from the Ford Bronco.

The Hyundai Boulder, an off-road SUV concept, follows Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design philosophy and features an ultra-boxy look filled with clean, sharp lines, according to a report by Car and Driver.

Although its overall shape is very similar to the four-door Ford Bronco, the Boulder concept explores additional design elements seen in more sophisticated off-roaders, including roof-mounted safari windows reminiscent of those on the Land Rover Defender.

The rear doors for the second row of seats help with loading adventure gear into the cabin, and a dual-hinged tailgate can be opened from either side, with a rear window that can also be rolled down.

From the images, we can see a very aggressive design, with straight lines across the body and a bold front stance, complemented by 37-inch mud-terrain tires.

Inside, the Boulder concept features thoughtful touches, including foldable tray tables and physical knobs and buttons instead of the more common touchscreen controls. All of this suggests the Boulder was designed with outdoor adventures in mind.

According to the company, the Boulder is a design preview of a body-on-frame pickup. While Hyundai has not provided size specifications, a mid-size SUV like the Boulder is expected to be part of Hyundai’s future body-on-frame lineup.

Hyundai also stated that the body-on-frame platform will be developed and built in the United States for the North American market. For now, no further details have been released about whether the concept will reach other global markets.
